The author is a B.Sc. in Mathematics / Physics, M.Sc. in Applied Mathematics, and Ph.D. in Atmospheric Physics. He has been a professional in Tropical Meteorology since 1945 and has seen the post-war explosive growth of this science. Over the years, he has done operational weather forecasting in India and University teaching and guiding of post-graduate research work in Tropical Meteorology. He was also a visiting scientist to UCLA and NCAR. He retired as WMO Professor of Meteorology at the University of Nairobi in 1982. He is presently associated with the University of Pune, Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology, Pune (India), and Weather Central at Pune (India).
